the silent patient
AUTHOR: Alex Michaelides
WHY I PICKED IT: Pinterest suggested.
THEMES: Silence & secrets, psychological trauma and Betrayal.
FAVOURITE QUOTES:
“Choosing a lover is a lot like choosing a therapist. We need to ask ourselves, is this someone who will be honest with me, listen to criticism, admit making mistakes, and not promise the impossible?”
“You become increasingly comfortable with madness – and not just the madness of others, but your own.”
“We’re all crazy, I believe, just in different ways.”
“The development of our personalities doesn’t take place in isolation, but in relationship with others—we are shaped and completed by unseen, unremembered forces; namely, our parents. This is frightening, for obvious reasons.”
FINAL THOUGHTS: The book had me hooked right from the start! I loved how the story slowly unfolded like a tangled web, with new clues in each chapter. I also liked how it mixed art and psychology—like, can you really paint your trauma? Super cool. And that ending? Even though I kinda saw it coming, it still gave me goosebumps. If you’re into psychological thrillers with a killer twist, definitely give this one a shot!
