the perfect son
AUTHOR: Freida McFadden
WHY I PICKED IT: I plan on reading all her books.
THEMES: Manipulation, hidden truths Nature vs. Nurture (Genetics vs. Upbringing) Appearance vs. Reality, deception, betrayal, sociopathy, domestic abuse, fear and paranoia
FAVORITE QUOTES:
"Being vulnerable in front of a person who has no empathy is always a mistake."
"If there's one thing I've learned in the last sixteen years, it's that looks can be deceiving."
"Psychopaths are excellent actors... They can make you believe they care, when in fact, they feel nothing."
FINAL THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: I honestly had a hard time putting this book down—the tension keeps building in this quiet, unsettling way that just makes you keep going. I really liked how the police interview transcripts were mixed into the story; it gave everything a more real, almost serious feel. At one point I was so sure I had figured out the ending… yeah, I was completely wrong. That twist actually surprised me. And the ending doesn’t tie everything up nicely either—it just leaves you with this weird feeling that something isn’t fully over, especially when it comes to Liam. It kind of just stays in your head even after you finish.
