the pearl anniversary suprise
My brother came back, but only stayed for the day. He arrived early in the morning and left right away for work. Apparently, you can work from any of the company’s headquarters. He came back in the afternoon.
I was lying on my bed, scrolling on my phone 🤳, when he walked in and said, “Oi, where’s the other character?” (meaning Caroline). I replied, “She’s taking a bath.” He said, “Oh, okay. I got some drinks for you guys—they’re in the fridge.” Then he left the room, so I just nodded.
After that, I washed my hair, did some studying, and got ready for a party we were attending. It was my dad’s brother and his wife’s 30th (pearl) anniversary.
We ended up arriving an hour late because there was a Muslim festival happening, and the roads were packed. Turns out we weren’t the only ones who were late. About 15 minutes later, the parents showed up, and all of us—church folks and friends—shouted, “Surprise!”
That’s when the party officially started. They renewed their vows and cut the cake 🎂.
Caroline and I were sitting and chatting when our dad came over and told us to go hang out with the other youngsters. We wanted to, but we weren’t sure how to approach them. Luckily, a sweet girl came over, said hi, and invited us to join their group.
We did, and we ended up playing this fun game called Mr. White. Later, the anniversary couple played the classic wedding shoe game—it had some pretty interesting questions—and they even danced together 👯, which was really sweet.
After that, we had dinner and dessert 🍰 🍨. Then our dad came over and said it was time to leave. It was obvious he’d been drinking—he kept repeating himself and couldn’t walk straight.
We got home, watched a bit of TV 📺, relaxed in the AC , and went to sleep.
It wasn’t the day I expected—but it gave me moments I didn’t know I needed. Sometimes, the best memories happen when you’re not looking for them.
