AUTHOR: Freida McFadden

WHY I PICKED IT: I thought I'd read all her books because they're just so damn great.

THEMES: murder, psychological thriller, deception, obsession, trust, the dangers of online dating, control, betrayal.

FAVOURITE QUOTES:

I never, ever go on a date without a planned rescue call. (Note that future me!)

"Be good for your dad, Tommy," my mother tells me before taking off in her Chevy for the airport. Yeah, like I'm the one who gets drunk and starts throwing things in our household. "Okay." (This was just funny lol)

The scariest monsters aren't the ones under your bed but the ones you invite into your life.

Murderers often visit the funerals of their victims.

And that's when I realize I've got two options: 1.Get my father to a hospital so they can save his life. 2.Finish him off. It's not a hard decision. I've done it in my dreams a million times before. (Like damnn)

FINAL THOUGHTS AND REVIEW: Freida has done it again! Every time I thought I had the twist figured out, I didn't. And that epilogue? So good. She really knows how to land those last few pages. The whole thing is this dark little dive into obsession and how far people will go in the name of “love,” and that final moment with the two psychopaths joining forces was… kind of insane but also weirdly sweet? I don’t know what that says about me, but it worked.

The whole time, it feels like you’re watching someone make choices that have you mentally screaming, “Please, for the love of everything, don’t do that.” But you can’t pull yourself away. The chaos feels intentional—like Freida wants you a little paranoid, a little suspicious, and totally unsure of who to trust. It’s messy, stressful, and honestly such a fun ride.
